519 N. Hickory, Champaign

Monthly Rent: $1,294

This unit is called City Lights. This spacious urban and urbane home is in the heart of downtown but away from the noise. It comes with its own reserved parking space in the heated garage.

City Lights is a celebration of light, both nature’s and the city’s. Windows pour light into both floors.

The first floor is the large living room, half bath, dining room, kitchen, laundry area and home office. The first floor has 13 feet high ceilings.

The second floor is where you will find the two bedrooms. Each bedroom has its own full bath. Off of each bedroom is a private, roofed and glassed and screened in deck with quarry tile floors. This creates a three season area for entertaining, grilling or simply lounging. The decks face west and the setting sun. The ceilings on the second floor are higher than those on the first.

While the unit is a celebration of modernism the walls and ceilings retain, in many places, their original warehouse textural feel. We have also added architectural elements from the past. In the kitchen the backsplashes are actually sides of radiators with acorn and oak patterns. The radiators were salvaged from a Baltimore brownstone. As you mount the stairs to the second floor there is an 8′ newel post that graced the grand central staircase of the Dallenbach mansion that stood on the corner of Park and State in Champaign. The second floor bath rooms each have marble sinks that came from the bridal suite of a long gone Philadelphia hotel.
